David Robson
Hello there and thanks for stopping by. I started Human Electric and I thought you might be interested in knowing something about me.
I’m a seasoned business owner, leader and investor – – - as well as a frustrated philosopher and writer! Over the years I’ve made and lost $£ millions but I regret not a second. Sure, the highs (and the toys!) are simply amazing and have given me a great life – the lows are . . . well, best learnt from and then put away.
During my life, I’ve been fortunate to meet, gather and work with some truly great individuals and teams. Always I take inspiration from those who respond to the call to achievement and enterprise that comes from somewhere inside us.
Some of my heroes are business people, some are warriors, others are leaders of change and transformation – and others are just quietly dedicated to what they sense as their purpose.
Success and failure have come to fascinate me – as milestones along the journey of enterprise. Especially as they are the same coin and the latter plays a great (if sometimes obscure) part in the former.
One of my greatest rewards has been to turn around a number of ventures that had ‘failed’ or were failing. In one case in particular I was the leader and strategist of fundamental changes that took a local ‘jobbing software’ house from obscurity to the stock market (with a market cap of £76 million) in four years. We built an amazing team – including a U.S. company!
However, I’ve experienced failures as well. One that stands out was a venture in the entertainment business that started as the purchase of an insolvent company from a bank, that we turned around and built into a multi-million group of companies with an international client base that read like it was lifted from a Who’s Who of entertainment. Then we allowed a private equity company take a big stake and it all went wrong.
But I gained from both experiences and, you know, in terms of what came next, I believe the latter has equipped me far better. Since then I’ve actually been asked by investors to assess businesses in their portfolio. I’ve also been developing a unique system & toolkit that empowers business owners and leaders to very rapidly re-engineer their company for early success – for those interested, take a look at www.success-mapping.com – we’re launching the programme in September 2010.
I’m presently a Director or investor in 5 or 6 companies ranging from automotive to software and play an active role in all of them. In some I lead and others I trust that I contribute and motivate. For me achievement is a greater legacy than money. That’s not to say that I don’t value the benefits that money can bring to me and those close to me. But I believe that there’s a world of difference between creating a million and winning a million.
I’ve started a blog, www.humanelectric.com, and whilst this is presently a bit of an indulgence because I get to contribute what appeals to me, the plan is to grow this into a venture whose sole purpose is to inspire, motivate others towards whatever endeavour or enterprise that they feel called to embark upon.
If you have a story that you believe is relevant to this little word picture of what pushes my buttons, or if you believe I might be of help in some way – please do let me know at david@humanelectric.com If it fits the bill I’d be delighted, if not I’ll let you know and perhaps even point your enterprise in a different, more appropriate direction.
In the meantime, thanks for lending me some of your time. If we’re going to meet, I look forward to it. If we don’t then allow me to wish you all that you strive for.
Sincerely,
David
